Fornication is a frightful SIN that is contaminating our society. This SIN has become an acceptable way of life for much of humanity, but it is in direct rebellion to God’s Word. Sex outside the bonds of marriage is immoral and an offense to God. There are clear and precise warnings in the Bible that prohibit such activity. In a humanistic culture of “shacking up” and “sleeping around” there is still no substitute for abstinence until marriage. God has given us the desire for intimacy but that is only achieved through the institution of marriage. Consider your ways, dear friend, is one act of fornication worth a life of physical and emotional regret? The consequence for ignoring God’s will is more than you can afford to pay. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
We live in a day when much is hidden and concealed for fear of being exposed. Such is the case with the frightful SIN of fornication; our generation lies silent and Satan laughs as the contamination continues to spread. When something is exposed, it is unveiled or uncovered, it is made plainly visible. Just as a lamp expels darkness and exposes dirt, so must the SIN of fornication be expelled and exposed by the light of GOD’s Word (Psalm 119:105).
Fornication is a biblical term that means to have illicit sexual intercourse. The Bible forbids a man and a woman from having sex outside the bonds marriage. The Word of God says “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body” (1 Corinthians 6:18). This SIN is not only against the body, but it is a direct transgression against Almighty God. God’s Word clearly states in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 that fornicators will not inherit the Kingdom of God because they are unrighteous and they who commit such things are worthy of death (Romans 1:32). Often this SIN is committed in private where those who are involved feel safely hid. One may hide this sin from their parents, spouse, or friends, but fornication will never be hid from the God. “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do” (Hebrews 4:13). The Word of God gives clear instruction on how to escape the SIN of fornication; “flee youthful lusts.” Run from fornication and run to Jesus. A man or woman is only safe when they flee. The only way to be free from the pollution of fornication is victory by flight and conquest by retreat. Turn away from it without reflection on it and only then will you find freedom from this frightful sin. If there was a fire blazing in your home, your first instinct would be to RUN, GET AWAY, AND EVACUATE TO SAFETY. Fornication is more destructive than fire; take heed to the warning and FLEE.
God’s Word says, “This is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication” (1 Thessalonians 4:3).
Today we are seeing a rapid decline in modesty and a great increase in nakedness. In all walks of life and in all activities, there seems to be an alarming increase in immodest exposure. There is an undressing taking place in our society. These things ought not to be. A man and woman’s body should be used to glorify God and point others to Christ. Procreation and the intimacy between a man and woman is permissible only within the confines of marriage. “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge” (Hebrews 13:4).
Society is numb to immodesty and sexual perversion and the result lust and fornication. This is evident in our society from the top down and in all walks of life. What is even more disturbing, though, is the frequency that fornication is exposed in churches. It is no wonder why our society and many churches are plagued with adultery and fornication. God’s Word says, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world” (1 John 2:16).
We live in a technological age of smartphones, social media, and wi-fi. Anything is one touch away. This enables quick, easy, and secret access to perversion and filth. Now fornication is broadcast on devices that were once primarily used for telephone calls. Pornography has become so readily available to this generation it is now literally at our fingertips. You find it in the local gas stations, off interstate exits (adult stores), and bare-it-all clubs. Why such nakedness? In the Gospels, there is the account of when Jesus healed the maniac of Gadara, a demon-possessed man. In one place it said that he (“ware no clothes” Luke 8:27). When, however, he was delivered of evil spirits he was “clothed, and in his right mind” (Luke 8:35). According to the text nakedness is a sign of demonic possession and satanic activity. Nakedness was also a sign of degradation and debauchery in the Old Testament. While Moses was receiving the Law on Mt. Sinai, many Israelites committed idolatry and lewd behavior, which included nakedness. “Moses saw that the people were naked” (Exodus 32:25), and this nakedness was a shame, “for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame” (Exodus 32:25). Many today are naked, but they are ignorant of their shame.
Dear friend, there is a cost for engaging in the act of fornication. You may think to yourself, this sin will never affect me. There are many who have stood where you now stand, and they would testify that you reap what you sow. That there is pleasure in sin but only for a season. The price for playing is more than you want to pay; fornication will take a toll on you physically, emotionally, and spiritually. There are consequences to SIN in this temporal life and in eternity.
Is it worth the cost in this life? Here are some things to think about:
Sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise. In 2016, Chlamydia increased 4.7% with an estimated 1.59 million cases from 2015. Gonorrhea climbed to an estimated 468,514 cases and a 18.5% increase. In 2016, 27,814 P&S syphilis cases were reported, 17.6% increase from 2015 (CDC). These are just a few statistics not including the vast amount of other STD’s on the rise such as HPV, HIV and genital herpes.
Unfortunately, the murder of the unborn (abortion) is involved at the costly sin of fornication. The price of fornication is very frightful indeed. The SIN of fornication leads to temporal consequences, but ultimately there is the payment for sin eternally. Sin leads to death and those who have never repented of fornication and all other SIN will spend eternity in hell, forever separated from God. SIN is pleasurable for a season (Hebrews 11:25) but it only lasts for a short time. Is your SIN worth holding on to in this life? One day you will stand before your Creator and be found guilty of breaking God’s law. You will be judged righteously by Christ and given the penalty you deserve? God’s Word says, “For All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Every human being that has ever been born has sinned against a holy God. Every one of us is worthy of death and Hell. Thanks be to God he has made a provision that can wash away all our SIN! The Lord Jesus Christ became that substitutionary sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary to pay our SIN debt in full. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
